STEENS KIGER BREED REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS


Conformation:

1. Must have an attractive head, not roman. Relatively short from eyes to muzzle.
2. Large warm eyes.
3. Wide forehead above the eyes.
4. Hooked ears, Spanish movement, and should have a Spanish build.
5. Neck must be smooth to the withers, not ewe-necked.
6. Balance between the neck and back.
7. Good heels, round feet more like a mule's.
8. Straight legs.
9. Good throat latch, not too heavy.

Color:
1. Good dun factor is desirable.
2. Claybank color is a premium, followed by dun, grulla, then other colors.

Lineage:
1. Proven parents for trainability and health.
2. Stallions should have the reputations of being under control at all times. That means under saddle and at halter.
3. What kind of positive or negative publicity has the Sire achieved in the horse world?
4. Mares should be calm and very concerned about their foal. This means that the foals are under control and being taught things like respect and survival by the mother.

All horses must trace back to Steens Kiger (From the wild in 1987, BLM #87005582)
by DNA or by stud report.

Any horse that carries his bloodline is eligible. While all proven descendants of Steens Kiger are eligible for registration, only the best quality horses will appear in the photo studbook.

Although horses with dun factor are preferred, coat color will NOT have a bearing on eligibility.

Cost is $25 to register with a stud report or $65 if you wish the registry to submit DNA hair sample for parentage testing. All DNA records will be processed by Stormont Laboratories of Woodland, CA.
